Western Underground Orchid

Once widespread in the Wheatbelt, clearing has seen them all but disappear. These amazing orchids live almost entirely underground (!!) Even during flowering, their flowers lie beneath the top layer of soil. It is unknown how many persist, or even whether they remain at some of the last refuges. Current survey techniques disrupt the fragile microclimate they depend on, and they are incredibly difficult to find.
